Every year the UK shows it’s support to the British Armed Forces, past and present, through participating in the Poppy Appeal.
This year Graffiti Life showed our support to the Poppy Appeal by creating a mural of a giant poppy on a wall near our Gallery, just off Brick Lane. One of our best graffiti artists spent one day painting this poppy for the guys at The Royal British Legion, who sent their camera crew down to our studio to film the artist painting. The poppy proved more difficult to paint than expected and our graffiti artist took a great deal of time getting the detailing in the petals right, making the poppy look realistic. The extra time spent on this mural was worth it, as the poppy looked great and had lots of compliments from people who were passing by. The finishing touches were spray-painted in the form of a grey drop shadow which really made the poppy stand out from the white back drop of the wall.
It was a perfect day for filming and the camera crew got some great shots for their ‘How Do You Wear Your Poppy?’ campaign. Discarding the rules and constraints regarding the ‘proper way’ to wear your poppy, the campaign encourages viewers to show their support by wearing the poppy however you like.
Graffiti Life were chuffed to take part in the Poppy Appeal 2013, which launched October the 24th. Find out more about the campaign here.
