One of our favourite projects to date has been our opportunity to display our graffiti artists work in a huge space outside the o2.
Our partners Somewhere_to give opportunities to young people who are 16 – 25 by finding them spaces to pursue their passions. They got in contact with us to set up a relationship between us and the o2. The idea was to create a pop up gallery outside the arena, to be exhibited exclusively by our talented upcoming urban artists.
The space generously given by the o2 consisted of three large window spaces that had previously been used for advertising. We were given complete control of this area for three months so ambitiously decided to exhibit three new artists work every two weeks. This exhibition was the perfect chance to show contemporary graffiti and street art in a different setting, with huge exposure to a wider audience. Our artists, some of whom had not been given the chance to show work in a galleries or public art spaces before, rose to the challenge creating breathtaking work for the exhibition.
As well as offering our roster of artists the chance to exhibit we issued an open call for submissions to young artists and chose new talent to show their work with us. We worked with these artists every step of the way, practically as we’ll as artistically and we put our curatorial skills to the test. The exhibition was covered extensively by the media, various blogs and newspapers picking up on the story. Many of the young artists we found continue to work with us and we view this project as one of the biggest and most successful ventures that we have ever undertaken.
